Alchemy Old Town
Our original campus, called ‘Alchemy Old Town,’ is located at 1255 Wold Rd. Facilities at this campus include our ceramics studio and our multi-use geodesic dome, which hosts yoga/movement classes, some of our art classes, and special events like concerts and art shows. Read on to learn more about these facilities!
CERAMICS STUDIO
Equipment: Our ceramics studio is equipped with a slab roller, 8 electric pottery wheels, with one standing wheel and one equipped with a strong arm, a clay mixer, hand tools, slab molds, studio glazes, a pug mill, two electric kilns, a spray glaze booth, and all commonly used glaze ingredients.
In the fall of 2025, we moved the print shop over from the studio at 1255 Wold and are expanding the ceramics studio into the space it once occupied.
Firing: We fire glazeware in a cone 6 oxidation firing, using a Skutt kiln and an L&L kiln (which was generously donated by Thrinley DiMarco). We also offer a raku firing monthly during our Community Art Night, which is on the last Thursday of the month from 6-8pm. We do not do raku firings during burn bans. Firing is done by Alchemy technicians. We are also in the process of installing two large gas kilns as well as a woodfire kiln.
Clay: A variety of cone-6 clays are available for purchase from our store at $30/25lb bag. We also have studio reclaim clay available for purchase, ranging from $15-$25 a bag. A variety of cone 6 studio glazes are included in membership.
Access: Ceramics studio members can use the space every day from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, except during classes and events, via our studio scheduler. At this time, the studio is only accessible via stairs.
Ceramics studio members may rent monthly shelf space (as space allows) for an additional $25/month. Learn more about membership to the ceramics studio here.
PHOTOGRAPHY DARKROOM
Our photography darkroom is part of our community art studio membership and features chemistry and equipment for processing film, three enlargers (35mm, medium format, and large format), a print dryer, a drymount press, black and white film and print chemistry. The darkroom is in the same building as the ceramics studio and is only accessible via stairs. Learn more about membership options for the darkroom here.
ALCHEMY DOME
Our 32ft geodesic dome is a multi-use space that hosts community events, yoga/movement classes, kids and adult classes, and more. Yoga classes are hosted by our community partner, Flow Collective Yoga. Follow them on social media to see the most updated schedule, or visit our calendar page. The dome is ADA-accessible and has as ramp that can accommodate a wheelchair.
The Art Barn at the Art Farm
In 2025, we acquired a former lavender farm, which includes a 15,000 sq ft building that we are transforming into an arts space! We are calling this facility the Art Barn. The Art Barn is located at 45 Hawthorne Lane. It currently houses our community art studio, which has equipment and shared studio space for printmaking, fiber art, 2D media, and more. We have moved our print shop facilities to this space.
We are in the process of building out private studio spaces for local artists-in-residence, spaces for visiting artists-in-residence, and more. Follow along as this project evolves here. Read on to learn more about the facilities at this location.
