THE FIELD CAMPUS STORY

A New Home for Arts on San Juan Island

For nearly a decade, Alchemy Art Center has created opportunities for creativity, connection, and learning across San Juan Island. What began as a small community arts organization steadily grew into hundreds of classes, workshops, exhibitions, performances, and public programs serving thousands of islanders each year.

In 2025, a unique opportunity emerged when the former Pelindaba Lavender Farm became available for purchase. Recognizing the site's extraordinary potential as a home for the arts, a group of supporters helped secure the property and invited Alchemy to imagine what it could become.

Today, the Art Barn and Field Campus are being transformed into a year-round center for art, community, and creativity. The campus provides studios, classrooms, artist workspaces, performance and gathering spaces, artist housing, and a permanent home for Alchemy's growing programs.

This next chapter is about more than buildings. It is about creating lasting cultural infrastructure for the San Juan Islands and a place where artists can thrive, neighbors can gather, young people can discover their creativity, and future generations can experience the arts close to home.

As we continue renovating the campus and expanding programming, we are building a creative hub that will serve our community for decades to come.
