Private classes and tutorials
Book a class for yourself, your family or your group in ceramics, printmaking, photography and more. Classes run 1.5 to 3 hours.
Book at least two weeks ahead. For a last-minute class, email us and we will check what is open.
Pricing
1 to 2 people
$125
The base price for most classes. The Wheel Throwing Crash Course is $250.
3 to 6 people
$55 per person
7 or more
$25 per extra person
The first 6 people are $55 each, and each person after that adds $25.
Extras
Glazing and shipping
Glaze day is included for ceramics classes, on Wednesdays during Open Studio. Staff glazing or a private glaze session is $30 per person. Shipping is $30 per address.
If cost stands in the way, apply for tuition assistance.

Block Printing
About 2.5 hours
Carve rubber stamps, linoleum or woodblocks, then print by hand or on the press, on paper or fabric.
Landscape Painting
About 2 hours
Watercolor or acrylic techniques, outdoors at a spot you choose when the weather allows, or on campus.
Wheel Throwing Crash Course
About 5.5 hours, two sessions
Center, throw and finish a form, then trim and finish it on day two. $250 for 1 to 2 people, $55 per added person, up to 6.
Wheel Throwing Experience
About 2.5 hours
Try centering and pulling a first vessel. A process class: choose another clay class if you want a finished piece.
Paint Your Own Pottery
About 2 hours
Decorate hand-thrown mugs and vessels with glaze and underglaze. One bisque mug included; extra mugs are $20.
Ceramics Handbuilding
About 2 hours
Slabs, coils and pinching for plates, bowls, plaques or sculpture. Staff glazing is $20.
Design and Silkscreen Apparel
About 2 hours
Your group designs one image together, then prints it on a tote or t-shirt (one included per person).
Raku
About 2 hours
Glaze hand-thrown pieces and fire them raku style. Not available during burn bans.
Natural Dyes
About 2 hours
Dye a silk scarf with flowers, leaves, roots and insects, and take home a zine to keep going.
Indigo Dye
About 2 hours
Dye a bandana in indigo, learn to make an iron vat, and try shibori folding.
Sashiko Stitching
About 1.5 hours
Mend or embellish clothing with traditional Japanese stitching, or make a patch on a tote.
Intuitive Watercolor
About 2 hours
An open, process-focused class for finding your flow with watercolor.
Experimental Monotype
About 2.5 hours
Painterly color prints from plexiglass plates, using the printing press.
Cyanotype Sunprints
About 2 hours
Make blueprint-style photographs and contact prints. April to October only.
Sgraffito
About 2 hours
Illustrate on a clay slab by carving through colored slip, an old Italian technique.
Member tutorials
$25 an hour per person
