Classes for kids and teens
Art programs from pre-K through high school: after school, in summer, with a parent, or one-on-one with a working artist.
Most programs are sliding scale, and tuition assistance is available for every one.
After school and weekly
Art Club
Ages 5 to 11
$170 to $230 sliding scale
Painting, drawing, comics, murals, fiber arts, photography, collage, jewelry and more, with new topics each month. September to May, Tuesdays 3:30 to 5:30, 4 classes per session.
Clay Club
Ages 5 to 11
$170 to $230 sliding scale
Hand-building, glazing and surface design, through every step of the ceramics process. One of our longest-running programs. September to May, Wednesdays 2:30 to 4:30, 4 classes per session.
Middle and High School Wheel
Ages 12 to 16
$170 to $230 sliding scale
Make cups, bowls and other vessels on the pottery wheel, then learn surface design and glazing. No experience needed; older teens can join adult Beginning Wheel.

Parent and Child Art Collaboration
Ages 3 to 5, plus parents
$190 to $250 sliding scale
Kids make art in one studio while parents make art in another, and the projects connect week to week. Schedule varies
Expressive Arts & Play
Ages 3½ to 7
$180 to $230 a week, sliding scale
A creative, nature-based afternoon program at the Field Campus, Monday to Thursday, 1 to 5pm.
Summer Camps
Ages 5 to 11

Week-long camps in June, July and August, five classes each. 2026 camps included Clay Week, Sewing and Textiles, Puppets and Theater, Drawing and Painting, and Eco Art.

Youth Mentorship
Late elementary to high school

Students work one on one or in small groups with a professional artist, on their own schedule, usually once a week for two hours.
Young Environmentalists
Middle and high school
Free
A spring and fall program where young people work with professional artists on the environmental issues that matter to them. Free thanks to the Madrona Institute.
High School Art Certificate

Take 6 classes in two years to earn a certificate, focus on one medium, or build a portfolio for college.

Free art around the island
Our Artists in Community program brings free art activities for kids and adults to parks, libraries and festivals all over San Juan Island.
Creativity is a human right.
Alchemy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Grants and gifts of every size keep classes, studios and free programs open to everyone on the island. Tuition assistance is available for nearly all classes and all memberships.
